Formed in 1998, the English rock band Coldplay was introduced to the world by their debut single “Yellow”, included in the album “Parachutes”. The band members, Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion, met in 1996 at Ramsay Hall, UCL. Known for incorporating politics and activism in their songs, Coldplay became even more popular.
Their sophomore album “A Rush of Blood to the Head” was later released in 2002, which included the singles “Politik”, “The Scientist” and “Clocks”. Not surprising, the album was included in Rolling Stone’s list of 500 Greatest Albums, won two 2003 Grammy Awards and the band was named by Rolling Stone as 2003 Best Artist and Best Band of the Year. The single “Clocks” earned the band a Record of the Year Award from the very prestigious Grammy Awards in 2004.
Coldplay’s third album “X&Y”, earned the band the 2006 Brit Award for Best Album and Best Single. Currently, the band is busy touring and preparing for the release of their fourth album, hopefully in late 2007.
